For the week of October 12th:
October 12, 2009 by kempel
Hello to all of you,
Just an update to let you know what our week holds for your child.
In reading, we are learning to work independently by studying our spelling words, writing a summary, and reading quietly so teachers may work with other children in groups.
In writing we are writing Haiku poems. A Haiku poem celebrates a season or another object. It is based on a set pattern of syllables; first line is 5 syllables, second line is 7 syllables, and the last is 5 syllables. We are connecting this with science as we explore structures of living things, plants and animals.
In math we are still practice facts and it would be helpful if they practice at home also. We are closing up this week on our study of graphs and will be moving onto the place value.
As you can see a lot is going on this week in third grade. On Friday we will be wrapping up our Flat Stanley Unit, and writing letters to send with our flat selves. If your child doesn’t have an address yet to send their flat self, please provide one for them.
Thanks so much for your help with your child. Most everyone had their homework in last Friday. Have a great weel.
